Ottawa, Monday, February 18th - - - It’s summer in February, thanks to the Ottawa Boat & Sportsmen’s Show! More than 24,000 outdoor enthusiasts will meet 200 exhibitors presenting an incredible array of products and services. For the boater, there are powerboats, runabouts, cruisers, inflatables, fishing boats and personal watercraft. For those who fish and hunt, there are fishing retailers, manufacturers, hunting gear, destinations, lodges and archery products. In addition, for those who just want to be outdoors, the show offers camping and hiking equipment, sporting goods, canoes, kayaks, outfitters, travel charters and vacation destinations. There’s plenty of fun for young and old, including demonstrations, prize draws and celebrity personal appearances.

To honour our troops, all military personnel will be admitted for half price upon presentation of identification.
The boating season gets into full swing with power boats of all sizes for every recreational use, along with a great selection of inflatables and pontoon boats. There will be more than 300 boats on the filled-to-capacity show floor. Virtually every major boat and motor manufacturer will be represented - more than 55 in all! Look for the biggest names in the marine industry on the 80,000 sq. ft. exhibit floor.
There are fishing rods, reels and tackle from the biggest names in the business, making the show an angler’s paradise. Add ATVs, fishing and hunting lodges, demonstrations and seminars to the mix and there’s something for everyone.
At the Minto Jackpot Fishing Challenge, anglers and aspiring anglers of all ages will enjoy the challenge of casting in the huge fishing pond. The Challenge is free and every angler wins a prize. Fishing enthusiasts will pick up valuable pointers from Big Jim McLaughlin and other experts at the Pro Fishing Seminars held on the edge of the pond. “Ottawa - World Class Fishing at Your Doorstep” is Big Jim’s subject. Paul Shibata will talk about “Smart Fishing in Crazy Conditions” and the “Right Tool for the Job”, while John Noel reveals the “Five Must Have Rigs for Largemouth”. “The One-Two Combo for Smallmouth Bass” is Charles Sims’ topic and “Effective Spinnerbait Techniques” will be demonstrated by J. P. Ostiguy. Dave Chong presents the “Do’s and Don’ts of Fishing” and Paul Shibata will explain “What’s the Best Line for me”.
The Kid’s Zone is located in the “Outdoors Zone” and is presented by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. The Zone features free laser shot games, an archery range where youngsters can shoot their first arrow, a colouring contest, lessons on how to make a fishing lure, kids’ cookout demonstrations and much more.
Extreme board sports are hot and everyone wants to copy the brilliant wakeboard and snowboard moves of the pros. In the Outdoors Zone, trampboard trampoline demonstrations will be presented by top athletes. The Outdoors Zone will also feature a vast variety of product displays, including kayaks, canoes, ATVs, dirt bikes, water toys and skateboards.
New this year is the “Ontario, Naturally Yours” showcase of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. The showcase features displays from the Fish and Wildlife Branch, Enforcement, Youth Programs and Great Lakes. The Ministry is committed to protecting and managing the province’s natural resources and making them available for future generations. Representatives will answer visitor’s questions. Fishing and hunting licenses will be for sale at the show.
