One of contemporary dance’s most sought after artists, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui returns to the NAC with a company currently setting the American dance world alight. Under the charismatic leadership of Benoit-Swan Pouffer, and thanks to the exquisite skill and individual styles of its dancers, Cedar Lake has quickly become known in America for innovation and excellence in contemporary dance. Exploiting the company’s talents, Cherkaoui summons his blend of expressive movement, music and theatre to explore the fundamental duality of self, inspired by (and invoking) brain scientist Jill Bolte Taylor’s eerie memoir of suffering a stroke. To an original score by Polish composer Szymon Brzóska recorded by the Mosaic String Quartet, Orbo Novo (New World) lives up to its meaning, mapping a new emotional world as the dancers create a memorable portrait of the tensions between the rational and sensual mind, between control and the loss of it, and between solitude and society. Scott Faulconbridge began his career with On the Spot, one of Canada’s most popular and acclaimed Improv Troupe and two-time Canadian Comedy Award nominee for Best Improv Troupe. Scott’s unique improvisational stage presence and witty observational style led Hour Magazine to label him one of Montreal’s ‘most promising’ stand-up comedians.

Since then, Scott has taken his stand up act all over North America and the UK, where critics have described him as a ‘goy Woody Allen’ and ‘insanely hilarious’. His stand-up appearances and specials have aired on Comedy Central, NBC, CTV and CBC. Scott has appeared at Just for Laughs numerous times as a stand-up, working with such acts as Chris Rock, Penn and Teller, Bill Maher and Richard Lewis. Scott has written for Discovery Kids ‘Jacques Cousteau’ and YTV’s ‘Fries With That’.

John became a Stand-Up Comedian soon after his birth and has performed Stand Up Comedy in every Comedy Club in Canada that has asked him to perform. Some of the critical acclaim John has received are; “John's story telling ranks him up there with the best young comics in the country” from the Jake Labow at the Comedy Network, “Damn Funny ” by Tristan Brand the editor of the alternative art blog indyish.com, “Abrasive Gold” by the Montreal Hour and “Pale, Ginger Haired and a Solid Stand Up Comedian” and “Funny, Actually!” by Bill Brownstein at the Montreal Gazette.

John was nominated for a Canadian Comedy award in the category of Best Newcomer, was named one of the five comedians to watch in 2010 by the Comedy Network, he was on of the 8 finalists in the XM Top 8 Young Comics in Canada Competition and was the winner of the Irwin Barker Canadian Homegrown Championship at the 2010 Just for Laughs Festival.
