W1 MMA is pleased to announce their debut event on March 28th, 2009 at the Robert Guertin Arena in Gatineau, Quebec. The event “W1: INCEPTION” will mark the unveiling of Canada’s newest MMA promotion and is expected to make a huge splash on the Canadian scene. In a fight, thirteen years in the making, CARLOS ‘THE RONIN’ NEWTON will be headlining the event in his first fight on Canadian soil since 1996.

Newton made his MMA debut on April 26th, 1996 in Montreal and his career has taken him to every corner of the globe, but has never made a return to Canada. The first ever Canadian UFC Champion and former number one ranked fighter in the world, Newton has faced almost every superstar of his era including Kazushi Sakuraba, Pat Miletich, Matt Hughes, Jose Landi-Jons, Anderson Silva, Renzo Gracie and Matt Lindland. Now Newton is looking to make his mark against the new breed of MMA talent that has hit the scene in the last few years. "I have been away from MMA for some time now and I couldn't be more excited to be back. It only seems right to make my return in my home country and with a great organization like W1,” said Newton regarding his MMA return.

Standing in Newton’s way, is one of Canada’s top welterweights, Ottawa’s own NABIL ‘THE THRILL’ KHATIB. Khatib has a win over UFC veteran Gideon Ray and has faced some of the world’s most talented athletes. The veteran Khatib has seen everything there is in the martial arts world and is expecting to spoil Newton’s Canadian homecoming. An extremely popular fighter in the Gatineau/Ottawa area, Khatib is expected to have a lot of his fans cheering him on against the popular Newton.

In the Co-Main event, MARK ‘BOOTS’ HOLST, from the Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts will be facing 2-Time UFC Veteran LUKE ‘LIL HULK’ CAUDILLO. Caudillo is the toughest challenge in Holst’s young career, but Holst was quick to accept the offer of the American star. Not one to shy away from a challenge, Holst is taking a huge step up in competition but believes he is ready for this test. Could this be the unveiling of a new Canadian superstar? A trip inside the W1 cage will answer that question.

One of Ottawa’s most popular athletes, CRAIG ‘FARMER’ BROWN will be facing AARON BASSO from London, Ontario. This fight is expected to be an all out brawl as both fighters are known to come out swinging. Not to be outdone by his teammate Mark Holst, REMI MORVAN will be facing SEAN QUINN from Regina, Saskatchewan. These two warriors are considered among the country’s top up and coming bantamweights and a win should put them in line for a W1 Bantamweight Title shot at the next W1 event.

Also scheduled to appear on the fight card are:
• Former WWE and CFL superstar and current Team 1200 radio host, Glenn Kulka facing TKO veteran Bob Landry in the toughest fight of his MMA career.
• The return of Gatineau star Jason Motard to the scene of his greatest successes against Eric Muir from Oshawa.
• The highly anticipated MMA debuts of pro wrestler Devon ‘Hannibal’ Nicholson and Quebec’s next big MMA superstar Christopher Boisvert.
• And also featuring Ian Dawe, Mike Hong, Tom Waters, Denis Porier, Mike Clark, Mustafa Khalil and other highly skilled MMA competitors.
